Alright, this will hopefully be the easy part. As life on earth continues to get worse and worse, eventually people will be begging to get on the space colony. We cannot let them all on of course, so there will have to be standards for the choosing. Much like Sparta, we will probably choose our correctly so that all the men onboard are man-beasts, and all the women are smoking hot.

We will also take all of our friends onto the colony, and make sure that the people that we don’t like never have a chance. After all it is our colony.

Getting it Into Space

Now to figure out how to build and transport it into space. For my space colony, I would most likely do what was done in the construction of the international space station. Build it in many little pieces and ship it up into space to be put together. It shouldn’t be all that hard, although it would take a while. What would be especially convenient is if by the time I got around to this side project they had invented a space catapult, or they have finally gotten around to building that space elevator (if they haven’t, then it’s something I might consider).

Like I said before, all of this is scientifically possible, it will just take time and a lot of effort to complete.

Designing and Building

Space colonies are generally pretty big. It’s a fact. Designing the thing alone is hard, building it is harder, and getting it into space is even harder. First things first, designing. I wouldn’t really trust anyone else with my space colony, so I would most likely either design it myself, or hire someone actually qualified for the job to design it while I yell at him over his shoulder. Until technology advances to the point where we have some kind of gravity generator, I will most likely go with the old fashioned wheel design.

There it is right there, pretty old school. They got it right the first time in 1968 when they made the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. The basic idea of it is that the huge wheel spins around, creating gravity inside by centripetal force. If you have ever played Halo, it works a lot like that. The main difference between the one in the picture and mine is that mine would be much bigger, better, and more heavily armed (if the final goal of taking over earth is to be achieved). The little details such as internal design, etc. can be worked out later.

A space colony could me made with existing technology, there is nothing stopping us today except for how massive of an undertaking it would be.

The current NASA Chief at the time of this writing, Michael Griffin, has said the following:

“…the goal isn’t just scientific exploration… it’s also about extending the range of human habitat out from Earth into the solar system as we go forward in time. . . . In the long run a single-planet species will not survive… If we humans want to survive for hundreds of thousands or millions of years, we must ultimately populate other planets. Now, today the technology is such that this is barely conceivable. We’re in the infancy of it… I’m talking about that one day, I don’t know when that day is, but there will be more human beings who live off the Earth than on it. We may well have people living on the moon. We may have people living on the moons of Jupiter and other planets. We may have people making habitats on asteroids… I know that humans will colonize the solar system and one day go beyond.”

Hmm… sounds to me like he is calling for a space colony!

Let’s briefly go over the difficulties we will have to overcome for a space colony:

Designing and Building
Getting it into space
Getting People to live there
Conquering Earth after the colony is established

The first sattelite was the Soviet Sputnik (1957). The first man in space (1961) was the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, and the first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong (1969).

As of this current date, no real space colonies exist. The closest existing thing to a space colony would be the International Space Station.

This is nothing like a space colony though because it is not self-sustaining, and people do not permenantly live on it. The purpose of my space colony is to replace earth, and so it will have to run by itself and be the center of civilization. My space colony will also be much bigger and better armed.

This blog is about my dreams for a totalitarian dictatorship onboard a space colony in the near future. As the population on earth increases, there will be need to expand into space. As the earth continues its path to destruction, it will soon be an apocolyptic wasteland where people struggle even to survive. The civilized culture will shift to center around the space colony, and no longer on the world. In this blog I will be discussing my dreams for the space colony, and what life will be like on it.
